
TEHRAN Brigadier General Hossein Zolfaqari, the Secretary General of Iranian Drug Control Headquarters (DCHQ), is participating in the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), which is being held from March 10 to 14 in Vienna, Austria.The CND is the main policy-making body within the United Nations system for dealing with all drug-related issues.
It examines the international drug scenario, promotes the global drug control mechanism, and identifies the fulfillment of worldwide organizations in the field of drug control.Through reviewing the worldwide drug situation, taking well balanced approach to interrelated concerns of illegal drugs need, supply and trafficking, monitoring the execution of worldwide conventions on narcotics, psychotropic substances and chemical precursors, providing recommendations to reinforce worldwide drug control activities, helping with clinical research and exchanging info, CND helps the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations in performing its jobs, and establish the policies governing the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) activities, and its monetary resources.Zolfaqari is scheduled to talk at a high level section, as well as hold bilateral and multilateral conferences with officials of the Narcotics Commission, the Executive Director of the UNODC, the President of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), Jallal Toufiqs, ministers, and heads of delegations from other nations, IRNA reported.Moreover, with the support and involvement of the UNODC, it is planned to share the nations experiences in harm reduction, avoidance, treatment, rehabilitation, and reunification of retrieved individuals with society and notify individuals, professionals, and experts of the steps taken in this regard.UNODC completely prepared to continue close cooperation with IranAlexander Fedulov, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) agent in Iran, has said the UNODC stays totally prepared to continue close cooperation with the country.The Islamic Republic of Iran is an essential and positive partner in its engagement with the UNODC, the UN site estimated Fedulov as saying.The authorities made the remarks on February 17 in a conference in Tehran with Zolfaqari.Fedulov described the ongoing cooperation and joint initiatives between the UNODC and Drug Control Headquarters as extremely favorable and good.
He verified his and the UNODCs dedication to expanding cooperation and protecting additional funds to support Irans programs.
He further emphasized Irans substantial role in regional and international efforts to fight drug trafficking.For his part, Zolfaqari highlighted the severe and irreversible human losses and the immense financial damages that the Islamic Republic of Iran has endured in its humanitarian fight versus the international drug problem.MT/ MG
